Highly Detailed Finished Piece – Still Life drawing showing Composition

Still Life Drawing showing Composition - Final Piece
A3 Size

The aim of this drawing was to set up a still life scene with a composition of different objects. I decided to use objects that were meaningful to me for example, movies of my favourite actress, a family photo and my stack of music. I used pencil to create this drawing as I knew I would be able to create more, finer detail than I would if I used a material like charcoal.

I chose a composition that would make all the objects stand out and so that there were no kissing lines. The composition of these objects fills out the whole page which means there needn’t be a lot of room for the background.

I also added a mirror into this drawing to create a reflection of these objects because I thought it would make a very interesting picture. The reflection of these different objects created obscure images of the objects they were reflecting. The glass picture frame created the most obscure reflection within the image behind it and because it was an image of a face it made it more visible. I put a lot of time into getting these reflections right and also within the shading upon the metal objects in this drawing.

I wanted something more to stand out in this drawing which is why I decided to add some colour to it. I chose to use coloured crayons to create the flower and also the candles and I think these make it a stronger drawing throughout and are the main focal point within this drawing.

The most challenging part of this drawing was creating the obscurity within the reflections of this drawing and to shade the metal objects to make them look shiny. I would have liked to have been able to shade the metal objects more accurately as this was the most challenging part I found within this drawing and is something I will practice on in the future.

Highly Detailed Finished Piece – Landscape drawing showing Natural Elements and Buildings

Landscape Drawing with Natural Elements and Buildings - Final Piece
A3 Size

The aim of this drawing was to draw a landscape that had both natural and man made elements. I chose this location as I thought it would be very fun to draw and make a very interesting final piece as this had both natural features with the trees and also man made with the church building and large bricked wall.

The church was very interesting to draw because of all the detail within the building. The building is the main focal point in this drawing along with the bricked wall which takes up the majority of this picture so I wanted to add all the detail to make them stand out. It was a rather dark day and the sun was not out to cast great shadows which would have also created highlighted areas within this drawing. This makes the drawing quite dark but it adds to the kind of gothic effect of this drawing.

As the bricked wall in this drawing takes up over 1/3 of the page I wanted to make sure I added in all the detail within the building and also the natural elements of the trees. The trees in this image were rather large and with not a lot of light on this day were very dark with very little detail. I shaded them as I saw them which were very dark but also I think very effective within this drawing.

I stumbled upon a problem with this drawing as I didn’t give myself enough room to draw the bell tower of the church which made the proportion of the church quite a bit smaller than it originally was. If I had more room to get the correct proportions of this bell tower then the church its self would have stand out a lot more.

Highly Detailed Finished Piece – Figure drawing showing Anatomy

Life Drawing of the Human Anatomy - Final Piece
A3 Size

The aim of this figure drawing was to focus on the anatomy of the human body and for it to be a highly detailed final piece. For this figure drawing I used my sister’s boyfriend and had him lye in a twisted position to show the movement and shape of his body. This showed the anatomy of his body in a very twisted position giving him a continuous twisted line from the top of his arm right down to the bottom of his feet. Although he is lying in a very twisted position it is also a very natural pose and along with him lying on the sofa which is an ordinary event it offers a very natural composition.

There is a lot of detail that makes up the sofa and my models clothes and I was able to show this with shading and highlights. The majority of the light source came from the natural light streaming in from behind him through the window which cast shadows underneath my model and very light highlights above him, as well as on the top parts of the sofa. These different varies of light made me able to sketch in very different aspects of shading to create the tone and movement within this drawing.

The twisted but natural position of the figures body along with the background gave me a very interesting image to draw and with a lot of different aspects within this image I was able to spend a long time on it and pick out all the detail to create this final, highly detailed finished piece. Although, there are some parts of this drawing that are not entirely accurate that I would have changed if I were to do this drawing again for example, the radiator in the background slopes of to the left very unnaturally as I got the composition of this wrong. However, the majority of this drawing I am very pleased with and I am most happy with the anatomy of the human body.
